2008 The Hattrick McLaren Vale Shiraz Grenache Tempranillo Blend
The philosophy behind The HATTRICK has always been to make a very limited release, blended red whose total effect is greater than the sum of it’s individual parts. For the first time since 1997 we have varied from the original Shiraz, Grenache and Cabernet combination . Out of 2008 we decided that our newly acquired Tempranillo parcel was the standout minor blend option and hence crafted our first Shiraz (58%) Grenache (31%) and Tempranillo (11%) blend.
The individual fruit parcels were open-vat fermented, then basket-pressed wines and put to barrel. A mix of mainly new and some second year French and a small number of American Oak barriques. After 9-12 months in barrel the Hattrick selection process picks up momentum. Each parcel was bench trialled against all others and preliminary blends were made. After this long and involved process the final 2008 blend was determined and returned to barrel to complete maturation.
The 2008 HATTRICK is a sophisticated, complex style that shows a smooth, vibrant, fine-grained palate of rich berry, olive and spice with a hint of chocolate. The wine exhibits finesse and balance throughout the length of the palate. The 2008 vintage has impressed immediately from release as a classically elegant wine, reflecting the vintage. Certainly it will reward cellaring over at least the next 6-8 years. Bottled unfiltered – Approximately 300 dozen produced |

2009 The Hattrick Three Vineyards Grenache - Barossa Valley - McLaren Vale
In 2009 we seized the opportunity to further extend our passion of the blender’s art. In essence we blended three outsanding, individual Grenache vineyard parcels post fermentation and part way through barrel maturation. Our quest was to create a more complex but harmonious wine that showed layered characters but immediate drinkability. With a 17 year history in making Grenache we felt comfortable with the concept. The result is self evident and will be repeated only when we consider subsequent vintage Grenaches align again as they did in 2008.
The 2009 Hattrick Three Vineyards is a blend of fruit sourced from the Mattner (Barossa- Rowland Flat),
Marschall-Groom (Barossa-Vine Vale) and Ozzella (McLaren Vale-Onkaparinga Hills) Family Vineyards.
The Rowland Flat fruit provides fine grained texture and suppleness in the mouth whilst the Vine Vale component contributes heady, varietal aromatics and abundant mid palate fruit. To compliment and finish the wine the Onkaparinga Hills fruit ties it all together with its powerful structure and brooding character.
We see this as a complete Grenache and an excellent example of the advantages that blending can provide when carefully considered.
Bottled Unfiltered. 100 dozen produced.

2009 Deaf Galah McLaren Vale Red
2009 is the fourth release Deaf Galah. It is a blend of Shiraz , Grenache, Cabernet Sauvignon and Tempranillo, The wine has a natural alcohol of 14.5% which sits comfortably within the lush structure of this wine, adding and extra textural element. 2009 produced outstanding reds in Mclaren Vale and the 2009 Deaf Galah reflects this.
In typical style it is a delicious mix of fresh, vibrant black and red berry flavours laced with a fine spice element and juicy mouth-feel. It has a delightful savoury, black olive/spice finish that makes it a great drink now and over the next 7 years.

2008 ADW Alliance Mc Laren Vale Shiraz
The 2008 Alliance Shiraz is the tenth release of this label. It is a fine example of the fruit driven, flavour first style that is synonymous with the Alliance label.
The 2008 Shiraz has been made by ADW at Serafino Wines at McLaren Vale and has been sourced soley from their Maglieri Family owned vineyards. These vineyards are perfectly located on the beautifully elevated rises of McLaren Vale, south of Adelaide. Shiraz from this region is known for richness of flavour and softness of tannins which creates wines of smooth drinkability, even in their youth. The Shiraz from these particular vineyards and is charactered by rich earth and dark fruit character.
As with each Alliance vintage, the fruit was picked at full ripeness, then given a long cool fermet in open vat fermenters. Post fermentation the must was pressed out and the wine was matured in mix of new and mainly second year French and American Oak Barriques for approximately 20 months.
The 2008 Alliance Shiraz shows layers of sweet, summer-fruit characters with a touch of spice and a layer of gentle oak to support this. It shows McLaren Vale fullness and richness of fruit.
It is an excellent drink now in its relative youth but will show growth in complexity over the next 2-4 years.

2008 ADW Alliance McLaren Vale Cabernet Merlot
The Alliance McLaren Vale Cabernet Merlot is made by ADW from prime fruit sourced from the the Maglieri Family Vineyards (Serafino
This broad vineyard choice and judicious blending have resulted in super-value red that clearly shows the inherent fruit quality of the McLaren Vale. All vintages produced to date reflect the consistency that we are striving for. Smooth berry fruit showing cassis and plum with a savoury oak overlay are the hallmarks of this wine. The palate is medium to full weight with a supple, rich texture.
This is certainly a food friendly style that matches well with a broad cross-section of foods especially modern ‘Asian-fusion’ flavours. It is ready to drink on release and will develop some fine leather and chocolate characters with mid term cellaring.

2008 The Hattrick McLaren Vale Red
“While this is not the only great value wine produced by Barletta brothers Ben and Mario, this one really stood-out during my South Australia tastings. Their ability and skill in blending a variety of warm climate varieties no doubt helped them to produce such a great wine in a tricky McLaren Vale vintage. This is the first time that Tempranillo has gone into the blend, further demonstrating to me the promise for this grape in the region. Other components include Shiraz , Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Grenache. Deep garnet colored with a hint of purple, this 2008 Deaf Galah Red Blend displays intense black cherry, blackberry and warm plum aromas with some earthy forest floor and loam notes plus nuances of cassia, mace and toast. The concentrated, full bodied palate has crisp acid and medium-firm finely grained tannins, going long and layered in the finish. It's very good now, though it should continue to drink to 2017+.”
