Barletta Brothers : Awarded Top 20 Best Value Australian Producers 2011 -  eRobert Parker (Dec 2011)

“The Barletta Brothers have consistently produced well-priced, intrinsically McLaren Vale wines under the Australian Domaine Wines (ADW) Alliance label. The latest releases of 2009 Shiraz and Cabernet Merlot are no exception, offering rich, ripe and very drinkable tastes of the region at just 15 bucks a bottle. Also worth trying is the Barlettas' “Deaf Gallah” McLaren Vale red blend with its own separate label – it's a personal favorite from this dynamic duo.” Lisa Perotti-Brown MW

    Australian Domaine Wines Pty. Ltd.

Australian Domaine Wines (ADW) was established in 1998 by Ben and Mario Barletta with a focus on developing full flavoured, individually charactered regional wines.

Since 1998 ADW has established vineyard contracts within most of South Australia's premier winegrowing regions with wines having been made from Mc Laren Vale, Barossa Valley, Clare Valley, Langhorne Creek, Limestone Coast and the Riverland.

In recent times the focus has been on developing a unique McLaren Vale signature.

Principal brands under the ADW banner are The Hattrick (super premium MckLaren Vale beld of Shiraz, Grenache and Cabernet), Deaf Galah (premium McLaren Vale blend of Shiraz, Tempranillo, Grenache Merlot and Cabernet), and Alliance Shiraz (McLaren Vale) and Alliance Cabernet Merlot (McLaren Vale).

National distribution commenced in 2010 through Source Direct, whilst internationally ADW's principal export Markets are Germany, Japan and Switzerland with a developing presence in the US, New Zealand, China and UK.

2009 Hattrick McLaren Vale Red Blend

The philosophy behind The HATTRICK has always been to make a very limited release, blended red whose total effect is greater than the sum of it’s individual parts.

The individual fruit parcels were open-vat fermented, then basket-pressed wines and put to barrel. A mix of mainly new and some second year French and a small number of American Oak barriques. After 9-12 months in barrel the Hattrick selection process picks up momentum. Each parcel was bench trialled against all others and preliminary blends were made. After this long and involved process the final 2008 blend was determined and returned to barrel to complete maturation.

The 2009 HATTRICK is a sophisticated, complex style that shows a smooth, vibrant, fine-grained palate of rich berry, olive and spice with a hint of chocolate. The wine exhibits finesse and balance throughout the length of the palate. The 2009 vintage has impressed immediately from release as a classically elegant wine, reflecting the vintage. Certainly it will reward cellaring over at least the next 6-8 years. Bottled unfiltered – Approximately 500 dozen produced

2009 Deaf Galah McLaren Vale Red

2009 is the fourth release Deaf Galah. It is a blend of Shiraz , Grenache, Cabernet Sauvignon and Tempranillo, The wine has a natural alcohol of 14.5% which sits comfortably within the lush structure of this wine, adding and extra textural element. 2009 produced outstanding reds in Mclaren Vale and the 2009 Deaf Galah reflects this.

In typical style it is a delicious mix of fresh, vibrant black and red berry flavours laced with a fine spice element and juicy mouth-feel. It has a delightful savoury, black olive/spice finish that makes it a great drink now and over the next 7 years.

2009 ADW Alliance Mc Laren Vale Shiraz

The 2009 Alliance Shiraz is the 11th release of this label. It is a fine example of the fruit driven, flavour first style that is synonymous with the Alliance label.

The 2009 Shiraz has been made by ADW at Serafino Wines at McLaren Vale and has been sourced soley from their Maglieri Family owned vineyards. These vineyards are perfectly located on the beautifully elevated rises of McLaren Vale, south of Adelaide. Shiraz from this region is known for richness of flavour and softness of tannins which creates wines of smooth drinkability, even in their youth. The Shiraz from these particular vineyards and is charactered by rich earth and dark fruit character.

As with each Alliance vintage, the fruit was picked at full ripeness, then given a long cool fermet in open vat fermenters. Post fermentation the must was pressed out and the wine was matured in mix of new and mainly second year French and American Oak Barriques for approximately 20 months.

The 2009 Alliance Shiraz shows layers of sweet, summer-fruit characters with a touch of spice and a layer of gentle oak to support this. It shows McLaren Vale fullness and richness of fruit.

It is an excellent drink now in its relative youth but will show growth in complexity over the next 2-4 years.

2009 ADW Alliance McLaren Vale Cabernet Merlot

The Alliance McLaren Vale Cabernet Merlot is made by ADW from prime fruit sourced from the the Maglieri Family Vineyards

This broad vineyard choice and judicious blending have resulted in super-value red that clearly shows the inherent fruit quality of the McLaren Vale. All vintages produced to date reflect the consistency that we are striving for. Smooth berry fruit showing cassis and plum with a savoury oak overlay are the hallmarks of this wine. The palate is medium to full weight with a supple, rich texture.

This is certainly a food friendly style that matches well with a broad cross-section of foods especially modern ‘Asian-fusion’ flavours. It is ready to drink on release and will develop some fine leather and chocolate characters with mid term cellaring.

2008 ADW Alliance Clare Valley – Watervale Viognier

The 2008 Alliance Viognier is the second release of this varietal under our Alliance label.

The fruit for this wine is grown on the Khileyre Vineyards owned by the Bourne family. It is situated 1 km north of the Clare Valley township of Watervale. The vineyard sits on the same lane as Grossett’s famous Watervale Vineyard. The viognier plantings are 10 years old, on calceous red clay over limestone which is the classic ‘Watervale’ signature. Being dry grown also means these are quite low yielding vines.

Like our ‘Solitary Block 2008 Riesling’ off this same property the fruit was picked in mid March. It was cool fermented for approximately 28 days and then aged on gross-yeast lees for a further 24 weeks after which it was carefully clarified and fined. A miniscule 2.5% was given 4 months barrel ageing in new French Oak and blended back into the mother wine.

The resultant wine is a fresh, full charactered and finely textured example of viognier with a firm natural acid backbone to give it lift to the peach/apricot,tropical and spice character. This, along with the Solitary Block 2008 Watervale Riesling is our best white wine to date since 1993.

2009 Hattrick McLaren Vale Red Blend ( Shiraz Grenache Tempranillo)

“ The 2009 Hattrick reveals a very deep garnet-purple color and notes of kirsch, dried plums, cedar and crème-de-cassis plus dusty earth and black pepper. Richly fruited and full-bodied on the palate, the ample flesh is well supported by crisp acid and a firm level of grainy tannins, finishing long. It should drink best 2013 to 2022+”
